Spied: 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe

The upcoming 2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe has been in the spotlight lately following a batch of leaked photos that stirred up a bit of “is-it-photoshopped-or-not” controversy.

The following nighttime shots — posted by the folks over at Automotive.com – could be potentially even more significant, at least from a sales standpoint. The new Elantra sedan has proven to be a formidable contender in the compact segment, and these shots of a heavily-cladded 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupemake it clear Hyundai intends to match arch-rival Honda’s Civic line model-for-model, at least in terms of body configurations. In case you forgot, Hyundai is planning to unveil the new coupe at next week’s Los Angeles auto show. The heavily camouflaged coupe you see here was caught at a parking lot in Southern California not too far from Hyundai’s North American headquarters.

Aside from the unique and swoopy coupe-like roofline, the grille, headlights, and taillights appear similar to its sedan counterpart. Additionally, we expect the coupe to share the sedan’s mechanical bits, which means the 1.8-liter, 148-hp, four-cylinder engine will be under the hood, at least as the base engine. Hyundai has been tight-lipped with the details so make sure to tune in next week for the Elantra Coupe’s official debut.
