Spied: 2013 Ferrari F620

The successor to the Ferrari 599 looks to be nearing the final stages of the design process, as these photos show. We’ve seen test mules of the future front-engine GT before, but those all wore fake body panels to disguise themselves as the current 599 GTB. Underneath all this loose-fitting camo is the actual design of the next-gen 599, codenamed F152, and our spy photographer has captured a rare first glimpse for us.

The styling will reportedly incorporate some design cues from both the 458 Italia and the all-wheel-drive FF. If that intake opening in the front is genuine, then the FF influence is pretty clear. The front valance looks to feature the same grinning intake shape as Ferrari’s flagship shooting brake, though it’s a bit hard to tell where the camo ends and the car’s body begins. That body is expected to use a good deal of aluminum in its construction, which should make it a good deal lighter than the current 599. Ferrari’s next-gen GT is also expected to use a 6.3-liter V-12 producing more than 700 hp – more powerful than the FF and 599 GTO, but perhaps more significant, more powerful than Lamborghini’s fire-breathing 691-hp Aventador. That power is expected to be sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The car could also use a Formula 1-style electronic differential, and as we’ve previously reported, a hybrid drivetrain could also be in the works.

There’s currently no word on what the car will officially be called, but the name F620 has been thrown around several times. Whatever name Ferrari settles on, the car is expected to make its debut at next year’s Geneva Motor Show in March, and could go on sale by late 2012.
