New Car: 2012 Mitsubishi Pajero/Shogun

An updated version of the Mitsubishi Shogun arrives in showrooms this week, and while at first glance it may appear almost indistinguishable from the previous model, there are big changes to the engines and interior.

As before, it's available in both long and short wheelbase variants and a wide selection of trim levels. The most lavishly equipped SG4 model aims at mid range Land Rover Discovery money, costing a snip under £41,000.

Prospective buyers that need a go anywhere machine but with a keen eye for the environment, will be drawn to the Euro V compliant 3.2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel that promises 207g/km of CO2 and 36.2mpg in manual SWB form.

External visual improvements include a chrome grille, colour coded front bumpers and new twelve spoke 18-inch alloys. Inside, updated dash illuminations high quality cloth and leather upholstery and privacy glass all aim to tempt customers from more upmarket rivals such as BMW and Audi.

Mitsubishi is well aware that it has a reputation to maintain and that it needs to keep current owners on side, with seven in every ten Shogun owners having already owned a Shogun. That means it will have to be just as rugged and reliable as ever.

Available immediately from dealers around the country, list prices start at £29,499 for the three door in base spec SG2 guise, rising to £40,999 for the LWB SG4. For more details click here.
