ecall Up Date: 2012 Honda Civic

Honda has voluntarily issued a recall on 2012 Honda Civic models for an issue with the driveshaft located on the driver’s side.

The Problem: The left driveshaft on some Civic models may not have been properly assembled during the initial manufacturing. This could result in the driveshaft separating from the outer CV joint, meaning the engine will no longer allow the car to move in any gear. The vehicle can possibly roll away if the parking brake isn’t applied while in the park position.

The Fix: Though no crashes or injuries related to the issue have been reported, Honda is instructing dealers to inspect the left driveshaft and replace it if necessary. Owners will be notified starting in late June by mail. Affected vehicles can also be determined by visiting www.recalls.honda.com, or by calling Honda at 800-999-1009.

Number of Vehicles Affected: About 50,000 2012 Honda Civics.
