Now that the next-gen Porsche 911’s design has been officially revealed in photos, variants of the 991 are all we have to look forward to in our spy shots inbox. We’ve seen the 911 in Turbo trim on numerous occasions, and we’ve also seen a 911 with a droptop before. But we haven’t seen those two qualities together on one car yet. Enter the 911 Turbo Cabriolet, which our spy photographer has captured testing on the streets of Germany.
Like the other genuine Turbos we’ve spotted, this car features a real set of intake strakes on the rear fenders. This car also wears the fixed rear wing and some of the other bodywork of the possible Turbo S model we spotted last month. As we’ve seen in previous spy shots and even in the photos released by Porsche, the dimensions don’t appear much different from the current model. However, we know from our in-depth first drive of the 991 prototype that the car adds nearly four inches to the wheelbase and two inches in overall length.
Though we got juicy details earlier this week on the 911 Carrera and Carrera S, which will get 3.4-liter and 3.8-liter engines, respectively, not many hard facts have surfaced about the 911 Turbo’s drivetrain. Since the Carrera S model keeps its 3.8-liter displacement from the previous model, we might see that engine with forced induction and other tweaks in the next Turbo model. All-wheel drive is also expected to return, likely a necessity when transmitting its anticipated 550-plus horsepower to the ground.
Even after showing us what the next-gen 911 will look like, Porsche still manages to keep our attention with prototypes like this. Hopefully, come September, when the 991 is unveiled at Frankfurt, we’ll know a little more about the next 911 Turbo.
