Spied: 2013 Honda Accord Coupe

The 2013 Honda Accord has been caught again but, this time, the 2013 Accord coupe was nabbed as well. Sporting white-and-black swirly camouflage, the two 2013 Honda Accords give us a slightly better look than we’ve had in previous spyshots.

The 2013 Honda Accord coupe, not surprisingly, bears a close resemblance to the Honda Accord Coupe concept that debuted at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. Sleeker headlights are directly connected to a revised grille that appears to avoid the overly showy upper chrome grille trim piece on the 2012 Honda Accord coupe. The nearly production-ready prototype leaves behind the concept’s unusual LED daytime running lights in the lower fascia for a set of traditional circular fog lights. As on the outgoing Accord coupe, a character line runs up the side of the doors but now starts from the very top of the wheel wells.

From behind, we definitely see the influence of the Accord Coupe concept in the restyled taillights, which unfortunately have lost the smoked look of the show car. Judging by the single exhaust outlet, this prototype is likely a regular four-cylinder model. For the 2013 Accord, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with direct-injection will be offered with a new CVT while the 3.5-liter V-6 remains, now making about 280 hp and using a six-speed automatic. Considering the automatic transmission Accord I-4 and V-6 models currently get 23/34 mpg city/highway and 20/30 mpg, respectively, expect minor increases for both. If fuel economy in the 30-mpg range isn’t enough, consider waiting for the upcoming 2013 Honda Accord plug-in hybrid model, with will use a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle with an electric CVT and have an all-electric mode.
