The Problem: Brake pedal mounts in certain 2009 Kia Borregos equipped with non-adjustable brake pedals could break off during a crash. Certain pedal mounts may be composed of a fiberglass material that would allow them to break off during a collision, causing the vehicle to roll away if it’s not obstructed. Drivers would then need to use the parking brake to stop the vehicle before a second impact occurs.
The Fix: Kia will begin to notify owners of affected vehicles starting in June 2012. Dealers will replace the brake pedal mount for free, and owners can contact Kia at 1-800-333-4542.
Number of Affected Vehicles: 21,912 Kia Borregos built from May 2, 2008 through January 20, 2009 are included in this recall.
