Vauxhall is planning to launch a saloon version of the Astra as part of a series of mid-life changes to the rest of the range due later this summer. However, the four-door is not destined for the UK, instead being reserved for select European markets where such cars traditionally outsell hatchbacks.
The Astra five-door’s changes are understood to be purely cosmetic, focusing on a revised design for the grille, headlights and lower bumper at the front. LED daytime lights will also be added in the front headlight units.
Vauxhall’s new 2.0-litre CDTi BiTurbo diesel engine is also likely to find a home in the Astra five-door as the firm widens its application. The three-door GTC is also understood to receive the same engine.
