Volvo has announced minor trim updates for one of its best-selling vehicles. The 2012 XC90 SUV gets an updated design inside and out. However, fans of Volvo’s unique 60-degree V-8 will be disappointed, as the big engine is dropped from the lineup. Officially, no word has been given whether or not the turbocharged 3.0-liter from the S60 and S80 will eventually be offered as an upgrade engine.
Now appearing on the XC90’s exterior are daytime running lights on the lower bumper, along with new lower door moldings, and a redesigned silver metallic bumper bar. Revisions to the rear include new taillights and LED brake lights, with new silver matte 18-inch wheels completing the look. The tailgate now has a new leather grab handle, and the load cover has also been redesigned. Silver roof rails now come standard on all variants.
Further enhancements the interior include a new steering wheel design, aluminum accents, and a watch dial-inspired design with white lighting on the center stack. Volvo’s On Call system can now be combined with Bluetooth, which comes standard on all trim levels.
The sportier XC90 R-Design also gets refreshed with redesigned upholstery, door panels, inlays, and new 19-inch wheels.
Mechanically, the 3.2-liter 240-hp six-cylinder engine carries over, while the V8 model gets the axe.
