General Motors' new small car developed specifically for the Brazilian market has been revealed at the São Paulo motor show. The Chevrolet Onix is based on GM's small car architecture but has been adapted to suit Brazilian's rough and ready road conditions.

The Onix will be built in Brazil as a five-door hatchback and be offered with 1.0 and 1.4 litre engines which can run on petrol, ethanol or a combination of both. Five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions are offered.

A high level of specification is being offered with the Onix, including Bluetooth connectivity and Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system. Special customisation options will also be offered.

"We looked to create a car with high levels of design, comfort and technology that will exceed customer expectations," said Chevrolet marketing director Gustavo Colosi.
