New Car: 2012 Porsche Panamera Platinum

To make sure Porsche Panamera V-6 buyers know they are not forgotten, the automaker has shown off a new Platinum Edition package full of equipment and aesthetic accoutrements for the Panamera and Panamera 4 hatchbacks.

Wish your 2013 Porsche Panamera was more distinctive but don’t want to pony up the mounds of cash needed for the various Porsche Exclusive options? The German automaker may have the solution for you – the new Platinum Edition package available for 2013 Panamera and Panamera 4 models.

The Platinum Edition is purely a cosmetic and equipment upgrade for the Panamera – the same 300-hp, 295-lb-ft, 3.6-liter V-6 and seven-speed PDK dual clutch gearbox are found under the hood. Lucky for customers in the snow belt, the new special edition will be available in both rear-drive Panamera and all-wheel-drive Panamera 4 variants.

Outside, there are five unique color choices for the Platinum Edition: black, white, basalt black metallic, carbon grey metallic, and mahogany metallic (pictured here); no matter the color, all Platinum Edition models gain high-gloss black trim around the greenhouse and front air intakes, side air outlets, mirror base covers, and rear diffuser all painted in platinum silver. The cabin comes in just one color combination – black and luxor beige – with a full-leather interior an optional extra. (A partial-leather cabin is standard.)

Porsche has also equipped the Panamera Platinum Edition with a raft of goodies as standard. Visible to onlookers are the 19-inch Panamera Turbo alloy wheels with full-color Porsche crests on the center caps, and dynamic bi-xenon headlights. Passengers are treated to the Porsche Communication Management system with a seven-inch TFT touch screen and navigation, heated front and rear seats, and a 585-watt Bose audio system. Drivers enjoy speed-sensitive Power Steering Plus, which is also standard on the Platinum Edition.

Sales of the 2013 Panamera Platinum Edition begin on January 5, 2013 with pricing starting at $81,475 for the Panamera Platinum Edition and $85,575 for the Panamera 4 Platinum Edition. That represents an increase of $4700 and $4150 over the regular Panamera and Panamera 4, respectively. (All prices include destination.).
