First Sketch: Opel/Vauxhall Tourer Concept

The new Zafira has broken cover! The all-new Vauxhall Zafira MPV will make its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month when the covers are whisked off the Opel Zafira Tourer Concept.

Although called a concept, the showcar is almost exactly like the production model which will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Vauxhall describes the car as a ‘Lounge on Wheels,’ which is a theme that has inspired design chief Mark Adams and his team.

“A lounge is a place you want to escape to and relax, a place where you really want to be. We wanted to offer the same feeling in a monocab and make it the lounge you want to spend time in,” said Adams.

The concept hints at a new generation of the current car’s Flex7 seating arrangement, and while the Zafira sticks with conventional doors, rather than the smaller Meriva’s suicide openers, the larger model will feature a huge panoramic roof to bathe the cabin with light.

Vauxhall will also make strides to improve quality and add kit to the Zafira, in order to distance it from the more basic Chevrolet Orlando. However, the price of the Vauxhall will reflect the extra equipment.

On the outside, the Zafira Tourer Concept features the new corporate logo and grille on its nose, 'blade' surfacing on its flanks, as introduced on the latest Astra, and distinctive wing-like headlights which will mark out the production car from its rivals.

The Opel Zafira Tourer Concept will be just one of the firm’s stars at Geneva. The show will also host the world debut of the Opel version of the Ampera, plus facelifted Corsa and Antara models, and Astra and Corsa models which now feature stop start technology. For more details click here.
