The Problem: The Sonata sedan is also being recalled for an airbag issue – in this instance, the side curtain airbags may have been manufactured incorrectly. If this is the case, the airbags may inflate without the deployment command from the ECU. There’s an increased risk of passenger injury and impaired visibility if the airbags inflate in a non-crash situation.
The Fix: Starting in August, Hyundai will have dealers notify customers of the recall and have them replace the curtain side airbags at no charge. Owners can contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151 regarding recall number 106.
Number of Vehicles Affected: 22,512 model-year 2012 and 2013 Hyundai Sonata sedans.
