The Audi A3 Sportback will become the second member of the new A3 family late next year, and these are the first spy pictures of the more practical hatch.
The Sportback is traditionally based on exactly the same wheelbase as the three-door model but with a little bit of added length at the rear. This latest generation of the A3 Sportback, however, will boast a slightly longer wheelbase on top of the longer body. This is in order to increase rear legroom as well as the size of the boot.
Visually there won’t be much to distinguish the two models, but expect to see practical touches like the roof rails on this mule fitted as standard to all Sportback cars.
Engines will be borrowed from the three-door line-up so expect to see a 121bhp 1.4-litre TFSI, which will be joined by the 177bhp 1.8 TFSI and a 147bhp 2.0 diesel TDI.
But the Sportback won’t be the only other addition to the A3 family. Audi is also working on a saloon model for the very first time and there will be a Cabriolet version, too. The usual S3 and RS3 performance models will also be added in the future. For more details click here.
