Lamborghini has unveiled its most uncompromised Gallardo on the eve of the Frankfurt motor show: the LP570-4 Super Trofeo. Top speed is almost 200mph and 0-62mph takes just 3.4sec.
The new machine, revealed in Frankfurt this week, is inspired by the competition car that runs in the Sant’Agata firm’s one-make race series.
This ‘super sports car’ is lighter, faster and more responsive than the standard LP560-4 road car, and it has performance and a spec similar to the previous LP570-4 Superleggera Gallardo. Lamborghini claims of the Super Trofeo: “No other model in the Gallardo line is as close to being a true race car.”
Carbonfibre and aluminium construction reduces the weight to 1340kg, some 70kg less than the LP560-4. The 5.2-litre V10 engine generates 562bhp at 8000rpm and cranks out 398lb ft at 6500rpm.
The road car adopts the racer’s robotised e-gear six-speed, paddle-shift transmission. Suspension is double aluminium wishbones.
The interior is fitted with a mix of Alcantara and carbonfibre. The latter is used on the door panels, monocoque racing seats, centre console cover and, as an option, items such as the steering wheel.
Further race-inspired options include carbon-ceramic brake discs, a rollcage, four-point safety belts and fire extinguisher. More mundane options include sat-nav, Bluetooth connectivity and an anti-theft system.
Stopping power comes from 365mm ventilated discs with aluminium eight-piston calipers at the front and 356mm discs with four-piston calipers on the rear axles.
Just 150 LP570-4 Super Trofeos will be built because it is being produced as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of the unification of Italy.
It is available in three colours: Italian racing red, grey and white.
The price hasn’t been revealed but should be in the same ballpark as the LP570-4 Superleggera’s £183,948.
