New Car: 2011 Mazda MX-5 Sport Black

The manufacturer says the MX-5 Sport Black has been inspired by the MX-5 GT racer that competes against Lotus, BMW and Ferrari in the Britcar Production GTN Championship.

The new road version is based on the 160bhp, 2.0-litre, six-speed Sport Tech Roadster CoupĂ© model. It features a ‘Brilliant Black’ retractable hardtop roof and comes in three bodywork colours – metallic ‘Spirited Green’, pearlescent ‘Crystal White’ and ‘Velocity Red’ mica.

It has gunmetal 17-inch alloys, and comes with black leather interior, a Piano Black steering wheel and deco panel and limited-edition floor mats. The equipment specification is the same as the Sport Tech, which means you get air-con, a Bose audio system, a Bluetooth hands-free kit, cruise control and front fog lights.

Only 500 examples of the Mazda MX-5 Sport Black will go on sale in the UK at an on-the-road price of £22,995 – £360 more than the Sport Tech model.
