Unofficial Picture: 2013 Mercedes GL-Class

The seven-seater Mercedes GL wasn't scheduled to be revealed until the New York Motor Show press day on Wednesday, but a Czech website has leaked these official images.

The new GL comes with a more upright grille, flanked by LED daytime running lamps and chrome surrounds. The sump and rear underbody protection also get dashes of chrome, and completing the makeover at the rear are revised tail-lights and a new bumper.

While it looks different on the outside, the second generation uses the original GL’s platform. But the styling revisions have added to the length and width to give the car an even more imposing presence.

Inside, the seven-seat layout offers more shoulder room for passengers, although maximum load space is still 2,300 litres.

There's expected to be two models in the range: the GL350 BlueTEC and GL500 BlueTEC. The former will have the same direct-injection 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel as the previous model, but with a power hike to around 238bhp and fuel economy of around 38mpg.

CO2 emissions fall from 235g/km to an impressive 192g/km. The GL500 will gets the 4.7-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 used in the defunct GL450. This produces 408bhp, with 600Nm. For more details click here.
