Recall Up Date: 2002 - 2011 Ford Vehicles

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Ford have issued a recall for 26,715 vehicles. The recall affects the 2011 Ford Ranger, as well as service parts sold to dealerships for the 2004-2011 Ford Ranger, 2002-2007 Ford E-Series, and 2002-2005 Ford Excursion. A poorly manufactured switch could fail, preventing certain exterior lights from working.

The Problem: A slider within a multifunction switch could deform over time, which could prevent the turn signals, taillights, hazard lights, or brake lights from illuminating. If these lighting systems fail, NHTSA says there is an increased risk of vehicle accident.

The Fix: Ford will recall 2011 Ranger trucks built between January and April 2011, as well as replacement switches distributed to dealers for the Ranger, E-Series, and Excursion. The Rangers will be repaired for free starting August 15. Ford will recall any unsold parts from dealerships, and will attempt to contact owners whose vehicles were repaired with faulty components.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 20,450 Ford vehicles and 6265 replacement switches in dealer inventories.
