Range Rover has cleaned up its act with a hybrid prototype version of its latest Range Rover Sport. The new car is one of a number of eco-friendly solutions that the firm is evaluating as it bids to shake-off its gas guzzler image.
Under the bonnet, the Range_e features Jaguar-Land Rover’s latest TDV6 diesel, connected to the eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox as fitted to the Range Rover TDV8.
The plug-in parallel diesel hybrid system means that the Range_e’s carbon dioxide emissions fall to 89g/km. The Range Rover Sport on sale now with the TDV6 engine emits 243g/km.
The Sport’s EV range is 20 miles, and the batteries can be recharged from a household plug, while top speed is 120mph. The firm claims that the car has a total range of 690 miles.
Range Rover will also show off three- and five-door versions of its new Evoque, and will confirm European pricing for the model; the Ultimate £130,000 Range Rover and the Black and White Landmark editions of the Discovery 4. For more details click here.
