Sneak Peek: 2013 Subaru XV

Fuji Heavy Industries confirmed today in a press release that the European production version of the Subaru XV will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. The new crossover will be unveiled at a press conference the morning of September 13.

The concept version was show at the Shanghai Motor Show in April. Subaru claims the European “production version of the XV remains true to the Concept” and “that it will bring something fresh, as well as a new level of engineering excellence, to the segment.”

Subaru says the XV “defines a whole new generation of Subaru crossover vehicles.” The Japanese automaker hopes to lure a new type of customer with the XV. It expects the new customers to be “confident in the knowledge of company’s AWD and engineering expertise” and “looking for the flexibility and lifestyle statement that owning a crossover brings.”

The XV is expected to launch in the United Kingdom in early 2012. Representatives from Subaru’s Europe offices would not officially confirm if the XV is coming to the U.S. market. An email from U.S. Subaru representatives reaffirmed that sentiment saying the XV will initially launch in Europe followed by other markets, and have not yet confirmed the car for the U.S., only that it was under review.

The Outback Sport doesn’t appear on Subaru’s website in its 2012 model year lineup. Speculation is that the XV could come to the U.S. as the possible successor to the Impreza-based Outback Sport, but it’s unclear what name it will be given here.
