Beijing Show 2012 Highlights: SEAT Ibiza Cupra Concept

Seat is commemorating its launch into China with a concept version of its facelifted Seat Ibiza Cupra at the Beijing motor show. The 178bhp 1.4 TSI engine, seven-speed DSG gearbox and chassis settings remain as before, but there’s a bold new design, particularly at the front end.

The new front-end features a new design for the grille, air intakes and bumper. Seat says the result is a lower, wider stance. The Ibiza Cupra also boasts new LED daytime running lights, bi-xenon headlights and cornering lights integrated into the large fog lamps.

The three-door concept rides on 17in wheels. It is finished in bold Crono Yellow paintwork and gloss black is used for trim including the mirror housings.

At the rear, there’s a new look for bumper, diffuser and trapezoidal exhaust.

Inside, the concept gets a new steering wheel with a Cupra logo, a new instrument panel and yellow trim to match the exterior paint finish. Other features include an all-new infotainment system and for production, Seat’s Portable Media System (as seen on the Mii) will be available.

The production Ibiza Cupra will be on sale before the end of the year.

Seat is launching the Leon in China this week and the Ibiza range will follow later this year. Last year, it announced 15 dealerships initially for the country, eight of which will open on 24 April.
